about

I wrote this song, “Mama I’ll Be Seeing You” to honor the life of a friend and to recognize her amazing strength and courage as she endured a 5 year battle with cancer. When Andrea passed away, her children were just 5 and 10 years old, so I wrote the song from their perspective. Andrea’s story is below and the proceeds from this song will go to a scholarship that my wife and I endowed to the Wyoming FFA Foundation in honor of Andrea. You can read more about the scholarship at the end of Andrea’s story.

Andrea Lohr lived more in her short 36 years than most could ever hope to do in a lifetime. She was a dedicated wife and mother of two young children who embraced loving others and serving her Lord. Andrea fought a valiant five year battle with breast cancer before passing in July 2011. Her lasting legacy and memory lives on in every person she touched. Andrea was an accomplished middle school teacher, motivational speaker, writer, farmer, jewelry distributor and church leader. She had a passion for making others feel special and for sharing her faith and testimony.

Andrea’s journey first began in July of 2006. At the age of 31, she first heard the words “You have breast cancer.” Needless to say, she and her husband, Matt, had no idea the road where those words would lead them. Although detected early, her cancer was the most aggressive type there is. Within two weeks she would have a lumpectomy, followed by 18 weeks of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiation. It was a long road, but by the summer of 2007 life was slowly getting back to normal.

In September of 2007, Andrea went back for a follow up appointment and her tests showed another mass in her breast. The scans confirmed that the cancer had returned in a new spot, unrelated to the first occurrence. This was very rare having just completed all of her treatments. Later that fall she had a bilateral mastectomy and began the long and tedious process of reconstruction. It literally took nine months for that entire process to conclude. On her last appointment with her plastic surgeon after removing her stitches, he noticed a lump under her arm. He suggested that her breast surgeon take a look at it just to be sure. One week later they heard the news that it was indeed cancer. Andrea’s cancer had returned on three separate occasions within two years. The doctors concluded that this cancer remained tremendously aggressive and that they needed to act quickly.

In the fall of 2008 Andrea had surgery to remove the lump and all of her lymph nodes under her arm. Following the surgery, the pathology report showed that they did not get all of the cancer, as it showed up in the muscle, tissue, and skin in the region. Additional PET scans confirmed their worst fears. Her cancer had begun to spread to three additional areas, making it a stage 4 cancer. That prompted her doctors to set up a visit to Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York City for their opinions. They had heard from so many families that this hospital is one of the finest in the world.

That visit helped Andrea get on an aggressive chemotherapy regimen. From November 2008 to the first part of 2011, Andrea had been on roughly 7 different chemotherapy drugs, a five month clinical trial in New Jersey, and endured losing her hair on four separate occasions. Despite her unbelievable battle, she remained steadfast in her unwavering faith and passion for living.

Throughout this incredibly painful journey, her family has experienced many life lessons. They have been graced by a tremendous outpouring of love and support from literally thousands of individuals. Throughout the process, Andrea received phone calls from the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and her congressman. She has certainly touched many lives over her lifetime, and so many folks were kind enough to share that with her. Andrea had also been in demand as a motivational speaker all across the country. She delivered dozens of keynotes for state leadership conferences, school assemblies, commencements, farm bureau conventions, and banquets.

In the winter of 2008, Andrea launched her own blog to share her personal journey and life lessons. (www.caringbridge.org/visit/andrealohr) Over that time her blog received nearly 50,000 visitors who followed her inspirational story. Andrea’s hope was that others can learn just how important life is through her story. Hug your family, tell them you love them, live life to the fullest, and make the most of each day. That is how Andrea Lohr lived her life.

Andrea loved the FFA organization, where she served as a Kentucky state FFA president. She also worked for the national FFA organization in various capacities and spoke to thousands of FFA members nationwide. Because of Andrea's tremendous example and friendship, Ron & Julie Rabou have endowed the "Andrea Lohr Live by Faith" scholarship through the Wyoming FFA Foundation. This scholarship honors one Wyoming FFA member each year who embraces life the way Andrea did. Thanks for purchasing this song and for your support in helping to make the difference in the lives of others!

lyrics

VERSE 1
My mama died, when I was just a kid
My daddy cried, it’s so unfair that she did

Seems like yesterday, she was smiling, givin’ hugs, kisses, galore
Runnin’ round, havin’ fun, singin’ praises, blessings and more

Oh my God, how I miss you….you’ve walked through heaven’s door

VERSE 2
Daddy said, God knows why, but it’s still not clear to me
Cause I just wanna run to her, give her hugs the way it used to be

I wanna give her love, laugh with her, say mama you’d be so proud of me
She’d say I always have, and I still am, I love you more than the stars and the trees

You’re the best mama….they’ll ever be

BRIDGE
You taught us well, we’ve lived by faith, we know we’ll see you someday
Butterflies, hugs from dad, have helped to ease the pain

And mama we still miss you….but now you’re free

VERSE 3
Now that time’s gone by, I’m all grown up, I think I can finally see
Mama’s words and God’s own plan, to be the best, that I can be

I see mama’s smile and God’s hand, in all that I do
Trust in God, believe in Him, he’ll help to see you through

And thanks to my Lord Jesus….mama I’ll be seeing you
